Pennsylvania: A Destination Wedding Location
Many people think of destination weddings being in exotic locations such as the Carribean. However, Pennsylvania has been a big destination spot for many of my brides over the past few years. More specifically Central PA (Lancaster, Harrisburg, York).
Many of the couples I have worked with grew up in the Lancaster area but have since moved away to places like Washington, DC, Virginia, New York, Florida, and even Hawaii! They have decided to come back to their "roots" and get married where they grew up.
This of course benefits our local economy! But it also benefits the bride in several ways. The biggest being in their budget. With many of these brides currently living in the DC and NYC areas, coming back to Central PA saves them a lot of money. Reception venues in those areas run much higher. Photographers charge much more. Caterers have much higher food prices. And so on.
In Central PA there are many fabulous vendors like photographers, caterers, DJs, and more. Their prices are much better than DC and NYC and their quality is just as good. In fact, even when I plan weddings in Philadelphia (which is typically higher priced than Lancaster) I refer those clients to many of the vendors from here as they will travel and their prices are better but quality is just as good, if not better.
Central PA has many gorgeous reception venues for "destination" weddings such as The Inn at Leola, Cork Factory Hotel, and The Hotel Hershey just to name a few.
Another benefit to the brides coming back to Central PA to get married is that often most of their family and a lot of their friends are still living here. That makes it more likely that these guests will come to the wedding.
Now of course if you are getting married here in Central PA but live out of town you will want to hire a wedding planner. Most likely you're not familiar with all the wonderful vendors we have to offer here so you'll need someone to get to know you and your style, your wants and needs, so they can send you to the perfect vendors. I've worked with a lot of clients from out of town and am very familiar working via email, phone calls, and Skype!
Happy planning!
