Pay it forward...that's what I wanted to do. Since so many people helped us out when I was going through cancer I wanted to give back. Giving back to a family in need makes you feel good. Especially when it's someone you know. On June 14th that's what we did. We held a fundraiser for a local boy and his family. Logan was born with medical issues. He's had many surgeries and in November of 2008 he had another surgery which went terribly wrong. He has been in Hershey Medical since then. You can read more on Logan's conditions on my previous blog.
Logan's mom, Jen, was one of my daughter's teachers. In order to be by Logan's side as much as possible she had to leave her job. This was leaving the family very tight on money with all the medical bills and travel expenses.
Since I do event planning I offered to put together a fundraiser for the family. I contacted two local photographers - first my hubby (of course!) Mike Miville and then his friend and fellow photographer Jose Urdaneta - with the idea of getting people to come to the Mountville park to have their pictures taken by the two professional photographers for a donation. We had families, kids, couples, dogs, and even a ferret show up for pictures! We then donated all of the money from the actual shoot to the family. The pictures were then posted to Mike's website for the people to order and all net proceeds from that will also go to the family. So far we've raised over $300 for them! Considering how poor the economy is I thought that was pretty good!
A big thank you to all who donated and to Mike and Jose for donating their time to this great event! We hope to do more fundraisers in the future...we'll keep you updated!
